Narrative therapy seeks to be a respectful, non-blaming approach to counseling and community work, which centers people as the experts in their own lives. It views problems as separate from people and assumes they have many skills, competencies, beliefs, values, commitments and abilities that will assist them to reduce the influence of problems in their lives.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand post-structuralism and underpinnings of narrative therapy

  • Learn about three core ideas of narrative therapy and examples of how these ideas are applied

  • Learn the nine practices of a narrative therapist

  • Explore the role that questions play in a narrative practice in questioning the assumptions of dominant discourse

  • Overview of narrative therapy treatment for a variety of problems such as ADHD, Anorexia, Domestic Violence and working with Couples.
